Welcome to Perky's Books & Gifts, where gardening books blossom into bouquets, cookbooks sizzle with succulent juices, and military history books can be lethal. Don't mind the mutilated body behind the werewolf display, or the fact that the cafe manager is an egregore; Frankenstein was one, too. The story of Perky's Books & Gifts begins with murder and ends with true love. It is told by Madison, Perky's night manager. She must band with her quirky (maybe just plain crazy) staff to figure out just what is making the books spring to life and terrorize the store and its customers. Does it have something to do with the new café worker, the possible new tribe of owners, the no-nonsense Colonel, or the mysterious lady who just suddenly appears at a café table, only to disappear just as suddenly with only a feather remaining? Perky's Books & Gifts; a place where you can find murder, mystery, love, monsters, demons, and giant festive hats. All of that, and books too! 1. Language: English. Narrator: Holly Adams. Jane AustenJane Austen wrote that in her novels she painted the world on a “little bit (two inches wide) of ivory,” working “with so fine a brush.” Her well-known books, such as Pride and Prejudice and Emma, display the power of this approach; her observations about human nature have proven so accurate and entertaining that her books continue to be beloved 200 years after they were written. Inside you will listen to:A young writer emergesAusten’s romancesPride and PrejudiceJane’s mysterious illnessLast days and deathAnd much more!Jane Austen’s life contains the seeds of her novels - the events, people, and places that inspired her as she created her stories. Here you will discover how Austen’s writing and life developed in parallel, from her teenaged Juvenilia to her unfinished last work The Brothers (published posthumously as Sanditon). 1. Livy's splendid adventure of Rome's rise to dominance comes to a close in this concluding volume of his magnificent history. Sadly, the work abruptly halts near the completion of book 45, which concerns events in Greece in the year 168 BC. The missing portions, numbering 107 books, have never been found. The original text of this monumental history, which came to 142 books when he completed it, carried the story to 9 BC. Livy called his work Ab Urbe Condita, though we refer to it as The History of Rome. Almost the entire subject of volume six deals with Rome's struggle with Macedon, ending in the defeat of Perseus at the battle of Pydna. It was an epic struggle with a dangerous foe. And though it was certainly not intended by Livy to be the end of his work, this segment does provide a spectacular display of his writing talent and penchant for drama... a fitting end to an epic work. For anyone who has never tried to read a book on how to use their new DSLR camera, they may be in for a rough time. Many books are written by photographers who assume everyone has the same knowledge and background. The information is scattered throughout the books. Jargon and acronyms are everywhere, and you will be hard-pressed to find a definition or what to do with them. That is what makes this book different. It is written for a beginner, as the title suggests. It assumes the listener has some knowledge, maybe even just basic knowledge. But, it is written in a format that follows a sequence of steps necessary to take a great photo. But, photography does not stop with a photo. This book gives many ideas about how to share and display your photos. It also discusses how to have fun with the art. And, let's face it, photography is an art. And art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Photography for Beginners discusses how elements in any scene can be altered for aesthetic purposes. This is a different slant than is shown in many photography books, because art has few boundaries: the possibilities are endless. 1. Language: English. Narrator: John Edmondson.
