Chapter One - My Birthday ´´It was on my 17th birthday that I first heard - or felt - God´s voice. In those days, we seemed to have a happy extended family in Anathoth and I was welcome in it. Times are different now....´´ From a family of priests in the peaceful reign of good King Josiah, came a young man Jeremiah, bringing words from God to his people. It was no message for the fainthearted, either. It was a message of Terror on Every Side! A young king and a young prophet. What could they do together for the people of Israel? Could the disaster be averted? Published by BibleTales.online, this audiobook is the first of five volumes leading you through the exciting life of Jeremiah, a prophet in ancient Israel, who delivered warnings of imminent terror for his nation - and lived to see them come true. 1. Under the guise of saving her best friend´s marriage, Annie Harper catches the red-eye out of LAX to Oahu. Less than 24 hours after hearing Marissa wanted to kiss their old high school crush, Annie sails away with the handsome owner of the Erika Rose excursion boat. Caught between two women from the mainland, Terence Javier finds himself at a crossroad. Ten years ago, he had the dubious honor of having his high school photograph drooled on by Annie and Marissa´s choir class. If not for his daughter and the ensuing custody battle, he wouldn´t have given either woman more than an appreciative glance. When Marissa´s credentials check out, he has little choice but to accept the savvy lawyer´s offer of help. Knowing he´s walking a tightrope, Terence prays he can purge the beautiful Annie from his mind and keep the balled fist of Marissa´s jealous husband away from his nose. 1. Language: English. In the real world, England and France allowed Adolf Hitler to gobble up the Sudetenland in 1938. Once Hitler finished dismembering Czechoslovakia, he was ready to go to war over Poland a year later. But Hitler had always been eager to seize Czechoslovakia, no matter the consequences. So what if England and France had stood up to the Nazis from the start, and not 11 months later? That is the question behind the War That Came Early series. Four years later, the civil war in Spain drags on, even after General Franco´s death. The United States, still neutral in Europe, fights the Japanese in the Pacific. Russia and Germany go toe-to-toe in Eastern Europe - yet while Hitler stares east, not everything behind him is going as well as he would like. But nothing feeds ingenuity like the fear of losing. The Germans wheel out new tanks and planes, Japan deploys weapons of a very different sort against China, and the United States, England, and France do what they can to strengthen themselves against imminent danger. Seen through the eyes of ordinary citizens caught in the maelstrom, this is a you-are-there chronicle of battle on land and sea and in the air. Here are terrifying bombing raids that shatter homes, businesses, and the rule of law. Here are commanders issuing orders that, once given, cannot be taken back. And here are the seeds of rebellion sown in blood-soaked soil. In a war in which sides are switched and allies trust one another only slightly more than they trust their mortal enemies, Nazi Germany has yet to send its Jews to death camps, and dangerous new nationalist powers arise in Eastern Europe. From thrilling submarine battles to the horror of men fighting men and machines all through Europe, Two Fronts captures every aspect of a brilliantly reimagined conflict: the strategic, the political, and the personal force of leaders bending nations to their wills. 1. In an extraordinary saga of nations locked in war, master storyteller Harry Turtledove tells the story of World War II, which begins over Czechoslovakia rather than Poland, eleven months earlier than it really came. Now comes the final installment in Turtledove´s landmark World War II series. Hitler´s Plan A was to win in a hurry, striking hard and deep into France. There was no Plan B. Now the war grinds on, and countries have been forced into strange alliances. For the United States, the only enemy is Japan. Then Hitler becomes desperate and declares war on the United States. But is it too late? His own people are rising up in revolt. The German military may have to put down the violence - even perhaps bomb its own cities. In this epic drama, real men and women are shaped by the carnage, and their individual acts in turn shape history. Drawing on the gritty, personal reality of war and on a cast of unforgettable characters, Turtledove has written an alternate history that intrigues, fascinates, and astounds. 1. Language: English. In Nature and Culture in the Early Modern Atlantic, historian Peter C. Mancall reveals how Europeans and Native Americans thought about a natural world undergoing rapid change in the century following the historic voyages of Christopher Columbus. Through innovative use of oral history and folklore maintained for centuries by Native Americans as well as original use of spectacular manuscript atlases, paintings that depict on-the-spot European representations of nature, and texts that circulated imperfectly across the ocean, he reveals how the encounter between the old world and the new changed the fate of millions of individuals.Throughout the 16th century, the borders between the natural world and the supernatural were more porous than modern people might realize. Native Americans and Europeans alike thought about monsters, spirits, and insects in considerable depth. In Mancall´s vivid narrative, the modern world emerged as a result of the myriad encounters between peoples who inhabited the Atlantic basin in this period. The centuries that followed can be comprehended only by exploring how culture in its many forms - stories, paintings, books - shaped human understanding of the natural world. The book is published by University of Pennsylvania Press. Most everyone has heard of H. H. Holmes as America´s first serial killer. He truly was a diabolical and evil individual. The intention of writing this book is not to declare anyone as America´s first serial killer, but rather to reveal that serial killers existed very early in America´s growth. America´s Early Serial Killers contains in vivid detail the murderous activities of five serial killers starting back in the 1790s and continuing through to the 1890s. In one case, the killer has never been identified. Given that these cases occurred so long ago, there will certainly be differing accounts as to what happened and who did what. The research was as thorough as possible though the conclusions may differ from other resources. The serial killers included in this book used different tactics and methods than current day serial killers though the atrocities were as bad if not worse. Included are the cases of: The Harpe Brothers who slaughtered up to 40 people, including some of their own children Felipe Espinosa who murdered many settlers in the Colorado territory The Murderous Bender Family who killed travelers for their money The still unsolved Servant Girl Murders of Austin, Texas, and finally The story of H. H. Holmes himself. If you enjoy reading about true crime that´s a bit unusual, this book will certainly satisfy and at the same time also reveal some facets of early American life. 1.
