Frederick Brotherton Meyer (1847-1929) was a Baptist pastor and evangelist in England involved in ministry and inner city mission work on both sides of the Atlantic. He was a friend of D. L. Moody and A. C. Dixon, and the author of numerous religious books and articles. Referring constantly to scripture in "The Secret of Guidance", Meyer calls on believers to examine their inner motives, to consider how they ought to be receptive to God’s guidance. The book emphasizes spiritual formation and the practical application of Christian precepts in daily life. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Matthew Erwin. Novelist Rick Moody on this edition of Fresh Air. He's the author of The Ice Storm which was made into a film, and the short story collection Demonology as well as a number of other books. He calls his new book a "sort of nonfiction novel." The Black Veil is about his young adulthood when he was so depressed he became hospitalized. He started to look into his own family history of depression for answers. He found that one of his ancestors - a clergyman - was the inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story The Minister's Black Veil. (Broadcast Date: May 9, 2002) 1. Language: English. In today’s environment, there are many questions about "religion". Of those who are asking these questions, some turn to books on theology. There are many excellent theology books available today, written by some of the brightest scholars today. It is not my intention to displace any of them but to make theology accessible to the average listener. Simple Theology: Theology for the Rest of Us is written for the non-theologian. Though there are many great theologies available, most are written by theologians for theologians. The goal of this book is simply to give the listener a basic bird’s eye view of theology that will encourage him or her to dig deeper. After listening to this book, I suggest picking up The Moody Handbook of Theology, by Paul Enns, or Basic Theology, by Charles Ryrie. Simple Theology is a sort of primer, if you will, to prepare the listener for these other more complete volumes. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Christa G. Lewis. A "flying skateboard", a "hat with a propeller", "bouncing balls with a parachute", and a "flying bicycle with umbrellas". You will surely hear the kids giggle at the cranky acts of Cherry, while listening to her funny adventures. With its original music composed by Kerem Köseoglu, and the fun narration by Esin Harvey, Cherry’s First Invention is the perfect story that broadens innovator kids’ horizons with ingenious ideas. The audiobook is one of the four books in The Adventures of Cherry series, which aim to encourage children for creative thinking, make them develop powerful imaginations and build effective relationships in their social environments. 1. Having overdosed on the cold, unyielding aspects of reality at an early age, books became a welcome escape I was happy to dedicate my life to. Editing romance novels seemed like the perfect career choice for the girl who craved fantasy and a world she could exercise a little control over. Bottom line, I like having a happy ending I can count on.Until...Jensen.Where I prefer to have my head in the clouds, unattached to the tumultuous roller-coaster of real life, his feet are so firmly planted on the ground, they're sinking in and getting buried there.Jensen seems an unlikely hero for any story, let alone mine. He's moody. And confused. And pretty damn sure there's no such thing as happy-ever-after.But then that's the thing about all the best happy endings. They show up when you least expect them to. 1. My God, I am willing that you would make me willing. God waits to bless us in a way beyond what we expect. From the beginning, ear has not heard, neither has the eye seen, what God has prepared for those who wait for him (Isaiah 64:4). God has prepared unheard of things, things you never can think of, blessings much more wonderful than you can imagine and mightier than you can conceive. They are divine blessings. Oh, come at once and say, "I give myself absolutely to God, to his will, to do only what God wants." God will enable you to carry out the surrender necessary, if you come to him with a sincere heart. If the answer to prayer is so positively promised in scripture, why are there so many unanswered prayers today (often misinterpreted as a "no")? Scripture teaches us that answer to prayer depends upon certain conditions. Christ spoke of faith, of perseverance, of praying in his name, of praying in the will of God. But all these conditions were summed up in the one central statement: "If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." It becomes clear that the power to pray the effectual prayer of faith depends upon the life. Let Andrew Murray show you what it means to live in Christ, and let his challenge for genuine intercessory prayer change your life - and the lives of those you are praying for.
