NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The perfect graduation gift: A sharp, funny grammar guide they'll actually want to read, from Random House's longtime copy chief and one of Twitter's leading language gurus "Essential (and delightful!)"-People, "Book of the Week" We all write, all the time: books, blogs, emails. Lots and lots of emails. And we all want to write better. Benjamin Dreyer is here to help. As Random House's copy chief, Dreyer has upheld the standards of the legendary publisher for more than two decades. He is beloved by authors and editors alike-not to mention his followers on social media-for deconstructing the English language with playful erudition. Now he distills everything he has learned from the myriad books he has copyedited and overseen into a useful guide not just for writers but for everyone who wants to put their best prose foot forward. As authoritative as it is amusing, Dreyer's English offers lessons on punctuation, from the underloved semicolon to the enigmatic en dash; the rules and nonrules of grammar, including why it's OK to begin a sentence with "And" or "But" and to confidently split an infinitive; and why it's best to avoid the doldrums of the Wan Intensifiers and Throat Clearers, including "very," "rather," "of course," and the dreaded "actually." Dreyer will let you know whether "alright" is all right (sometimes) and even help you brush up on your spelling-though, as he notes, "The problem with mnemonic devices is that I can never remember them." And yes: "Only godless savages eschew the series comma." Chockful of advice, insider wisdom, and fun facts, this book will prove to be invaluable to everyone who wants to shore up their writing skills, mandatory for people who spend their time editing and shaping other people's prose, and-perhaps best of all-an utter treat for anyone who simply revels in language. Praise for Dreyer's English "Playful, smart, self-conscious, and personal . . . One encounters wisdom and good sense on nearly every page of Dreyer's English."-The Wall Street Journal "Destined to become a classic."-The Millions "Dreyer can help you . . . with tips on punctuation and spelling. . . . Even better: He'll entertain you while he's at it."-Newsday (What to Read This Week)

Babysitter für 2 Kinder in 30159 Hannover gesucht

Hello,  My name is Becky, I will be performing in the GOP variety cabaret in Hannover for the months of September and October. I am looking for a babysitter for my 2 year old son and 4.5 year old daughter these dates: September 3 - October 25. Its minimum 4 hours, maximum 8- 8.5 hours per day. We are looking for one babysitter free to do all of the shifts. If not possible we will consider hiring two babysitters to split the shifts. The approximate hours are:  Wednesday 18-22 Thursday 18-22  Friday 16-23  Saturday 16-23 Sunday 12- 20  Our almost 5 year old girl is a fun, playful child who loves to play, dance, sing, read books, do puzzles and be silly! She has a big imagination and loves to play pretend. We are looking for someone comfortable with this age. Our 2 year old son is exploring the world, running, learning new words and very curious. Both love music dancing and being outside. We are a no (or very very little) TV family. We usually prepare the meals in advance so they just need to be warmed up and served. Command of French or English necessary, we don't speak German yet. We like to do an introductory period where we see if the babysitter and our children are fit together. This way the babysitter can see if they like the situation and can see if our children feel comfortable.  We will be in Hannover as of the 24th of August so we have time to meet you before our rehearsals start. Pay is 10€ an hour. Cash or transfer, whatever is preferred. Also there is another 2 year old girl on the show. In the past we have had babysitters that are friends (or sisters) taking both babysitting positions and spending lots of time together with the 3 kids. Not necessary but if you have someone in mind, I would be happy to pass your information on to my friend. Thank you kindly,  please feel free to call or text me, my number is on my profile. One of Smithsonian's favorite books of 2018.One of Forbes' 2018 best books about astronomy, physics, and mathematics. One of Kirkus' best books of 2018.The intellectual adventure story of the "double-slit" experiment, showing how a sunbeam split into two paths first challenged our understanding of light and then the nature of reality itself - and continues to almost 200 years later. Many of science's greatest minds have grappled with the simple yet elusive "double-slit" experiment. Thomas Young devised it in the early 1800s to show that light behaves like a wave, and in doing so opposed Isaac Newton. Nearly a century later, Albert Einstein showed that light comes in quanta, or particles, and the experiment became key to a fierce debate between Einstein and Niels Bohr over the nature of reality. Richard Feynman held that the double slit embodies the central mystery of the quantum world. Decade after decade, hypothesis after hypothesis, scientists have returned to this ingenious experiment to help them answer deeper and deeper questions about the fabric of the universe. How can a single particle behave both like a particle and a wave? Does a particle exist before we look at it, or does the very act of looking create reality? Are there hidden aspects to reality missing from the orthodox view of quantum physics? Is there a place where the quantum world ends and the familiar classical world of our daily lives begins, and if so, can we find it? And if there's no such place, then does the universe split into two each time a particle goes through the double slit? With his extraordinarily gifted eloquence, Anil Ananthaswamy travels around the world and through history, down to the smallest scales of physical reality we have yet fathomed. Through Two Doors at Once is the most fantastic voyage you can take. 1. Language: English. Narrator: René Ruiz. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/peng/004109/bk_peng_004109_sample.mp3.
