Note to kids, parents and teachers: We can pretend and have fun listening to stories that are not true. Give your answers to the questions before you proceed. You answer can be different or the same. If two or more persons are listening to this book, you can take turns listening to the story, and then stop and have the others use their imagination and guess by saying what they think will happen next. 1. The premise of this book is based on the recognition that thought is an activity in human beings that (1) proceeds in a fragmented way and that (2) basically cannot be halted. We cannot opt out of thinking. The conclusion is that this accounts for human suffering, lack of direction, and chaos in daily actions and decisions. This leads to the further conclusion that thinking is not something we do, it is something that is being done in us.You think you think, but do you? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Stephen Muires. Democrats are so dumb they think it´s cool to have a jackass for their party symbol. The association goes back to the election of 1828. Andrew Jackson´s opponents started calling him Jackass Jackson as a term of derision. The story is the old general took a shine to the name and started printing up posters with a picture of a jackass next to his name. Over the years the symbol just sort of stuck. Sometime in the 1870s humorist Thomas Nast created a cartoon for Harper´s Weekly that portrayed the Democratic jackass and the newly created Republican elephant. Ever since then they´ve been the party mascots. Pretty appropriate if you think about it, one is an ass, and the other one drops a really big load. Politics 101. All it takes is an ass and a really big load of shit. Put the two together and you´ve got a politician. This book is a snarky, somewhat twisted look at politics. Along the way, you´ll meet Obama, Clinton, and Biden. Even though it´s a book about democrats we´re going to do a little Bush bashing - father and son. If you dislike Democrats this may be the book for you. If you dislike politics in general, this may be the book for you. I´m a political agnostic. I´ve got no love for Democrats, Republicans, or the Tea Party. And, yes, that irreverence shows throughout the book. If you´re fed up with politics, politicians, and all of their BS - Read this book, and register a vote for sanity. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Dave Wright. Early one summer morning, 14-year-old Vivian Thompson rode out of Taos, New Mexico Territory, on her way to Cimarron. Following the stage road east up Taos Canyon, would take several hours getting to the top of the summit, 9,100 feet high Palo Flechado Pass. The road ran along the north side of a meandering creek. Farther up it switched back left then right, growing steeper and steeper. Once up top there was a pull out clear spot where the stage stopped to rest horses. She stopped and looked down the east side of the mountain. Miles below she could see the Moreno Valley. Just as she started to ride on, she heard a pistol shot then a rifle fired echoing loud and long. A short second later the pistol fired again. She looked down a canyon leading east by southeast and saw chimney smoke coming from a small log cabin. ´´Horse, that sounds as if someone is in trouble. We´d better check that out.´´ She reached down and removed the thong from the hammer of her 45, then without looking reached and touched the stock of her 44 40. 1. Language: English. Thinkers of the East is a collection of anecdotes and ´´parables in action´´ illustrating the eminently practical and lucid approach of Eastern Dervish teachers. Distilled from the teachings of more than 100 sages in three continents, this material stresses the experimental rather than the theoretical - and it is that characteristic of Sufi study which provides its impact and vitality. The emphasis of Thinkers of the East contrasts sharply with the Western concept of the East as a place of theory without practice, or thought without action. The book´s author, Idries Shah, says, ´´Without direct experience of such teaching, or at least a direct recording of it, I cannot see how Eastern thought can ever be understood.´´ 1.
